Dokushin desu.. (part 1..)

When you go along with someone, or just have a chit-chat in a forum, what topic will you choose just to make the day warmer?? In indonesia, we will normally get into the family life as a topic, such as how many son he/she have, how their son is doing, etc..

But, from now on, i really promise my self not to take such topic in japan, since to date, its been 2 times for me spoiling all the atmosphere with these questions.. The first one happened when i had my first On Job Training in the company, where each day, i was rotated to each the laboratory my group have. That day, i had the 3G simulator with me and of course a laborant who is (in my opinion) a bit nerd and cold..he was about 40 for the first sight. Since i had to catch up with my report, i was still working when he said he will leave earlier and ask me if im OK.. I just said its OK, and added that since im still a single, i can freely go home every time (i meant, he also have family to share his time with). What a speechless me when he answered “watashimo dokushin da yo..” pointing his own nose, he said “im also a single ..!”..woow..

The second booms just happened this past few days when we went party for our new member.. i worked in a team that have three outsource members.. Actually i know them well since we have routine meeting every week, but i dont know further about their life. So it was good time to know them better. Two of them are above 40 i think, and the rest is still the same age with me.. Everything went very well, I managed to know them better (feel good to know that recently, i can get their party-mode full speed conversation).

Again, i took a stupid assumption from their age (an age for indonesian normally having 1-2 children).. I just ask the man how many children he has.. and bingo!! dejavu.. he answered “Dokushin desu..” (i’m single).. Wow!! Ah OK, i can still melt my speechlessness by asking the woman next to him. Hoping to get the different answer really dissapointed me when she said “boku mo dokushin desu” (im also single).. Upss.. double hit!! ha ha ha.. i just got a way out with a joke.. “Ah, good, so we don’t need to mind what time to leave the party ha ha..”

Yes, for japanese, its really a normal not to marry.. In my group with 12 member (only two are under 30), five are “still” single. From that five, four of them are already above 37, that make me think marriage is not even an issue for them to think about..

OK, just my advice, please think for another topic to get closer to japanese.. Not even a marriage, unless you get good “pre-assumption”

*dokushin = single

just a riddle..

Last time i had a quote boring morning with shower rain outside (cold is out of question, recently), and luckily i found my friend’s blog, arief updated with a riddle. Pretty nice riddle to spend the morning with, in my opinion..

here is the riddle:

——————————————————-

ALBERT EINSTEIN’S RIDDLE

ARE YOU IN THE TOP 2% OF INTELLIGENT PEOPLE IN
THE WORLD? SOLVE THE RIDDLE AND FIND OUT.

There are no tricks, just pure
logic, so good luck and don’t give up.

  1. In a street there are five houses, painted five different colours.
  2. In each house lives a person of different nationality.
  3. These five homeowners each drink a different kind of beverage, smoke
different brand of cigar and keep a different pet.

THE QUESTION: WHO OWNS THE FISH?

HINTS

  1. The Brit lives in a red house.
  2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets.
  3. The Dane drinks tea.
  4. The Green house is next to, and on the left of the White house.
  5. The owner of the Green house drinks coffee.
  6. The person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds.
  7. The owner of the Yellow house smokes Dunhill.
  8. The man living in the centre house drinks milk.
  9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
  10. The man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats.
  11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill.
  12. The man who smokes Blue Master drinks beer.
  13. The German smokes Prince.
  14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
  15. The man who smokes Blends has a neighbour who drinks water.

ALBERT EINSTEIN WROTE THIS RIDDLE EARLY DURING THE 19th CENTURY. HE SAID THAT
98% OF THE WORLD POPULATION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SOLVE IT.

Dont take the last trashy comment too personally since its not confirmed.. just enjoy the riddle, spend your time with a coffee with you and find the fish !! (actually no one own the fish, its just an assumption of the animal not mentioned, and we have to guess its owner)..

To tell you frankly, i spent my first 10 minutes with no result but reading line per line.. I just noticed that every information is provided.. it was just so scattered..and we have to find and classify them. Then, we can decide a method to get the answer…. My answer isĀ  hereĀ

I was just so interested in this riddle from some viewpoint (not trying to be wise)..Quite personal i think, but i found these moral:

* I was much more unsystematic before..and I found that my 1 year living in this country has shaped my self to be more sistematic person.. OK, i take it as a good effect , since to date, i ‘ve been thinking that too systematic wont be good, anyway..

* we have all the information around us.. its just need to be figured out..we also have to classify the information.. to make it more globally, the bad and good one..

* we need strategy, method before we act.. (my mentor always says this thing to me)

So how do you think about this riddle guys?? any comments?
